Rural America covers 87.7% of the country’s land area and is home to 64.5 million people (HRSA). The teams who serve those communities are asked to adopt the same new technologies as large urban systems, but the nearest fixed-site lab can be hours away. Every clinician who travels for training leaves a gap in a schedule that was already thin. The technology arrives. The hands-on time to adopt it doesn’t.

Aligned with the federal Rural Health Transformation Program: CMS awarded funding to all 50 states in December 2025, and allowable uses include training to adopt robotics and other advanced technologies in rural hospitals. Eligibility is set by each state’s plan; LITLab does not administer or guarantee funding.
